If you like classic slot machines but also enjoy the presence of an actual theme, you may want to check out Alchemist’s Lab. This offering is brought to you by software provider Playtech, and for being as basic as retro slot games are meant to be, it’s actually quite entertaining. Obviously, the theme of this title is alchemy, which is why the screen is basically covered in bottles and potions and all sorts of questionable substances. The two main pieces of glassware you will want to pay attention to, though, are on either side of the reels. One is blue and will show you your winnings, and the other one is green and it displays your current bet. Note that the symbols represent different colored liquids, as well. Alongside them you will see a golden ring, a book and a coin.
Now moving onto to the game’s layout, it’s really quite traditional. It only boasts 3 reels and each of them has but a single row. Naturally, there is only one active payline for you to bet on, which massively simplifies things. There are only three coin values for you to choose from, and each of these has its own pair of bellows to make things even simpler. With that in mind, your betting options in this game are £1 (the minimum), £2 and the maximum bet of £3 per single spin. The amount you bet on these reels will also determine the amount of your payouts; for ease of reference, the paytable is right on the main screen for you to keep an eye on at all times.
Alchemist’s Lab isn’t exactly your typical vintage slot machine in that it actually does feature a bonus game. Yes, this isn’t quite what classic slots are about, but it makes a very pleasant touch nonetheless. And since there’s a special feature, there is also a special symbol to go along with it. It’s not a Wild or a Scatter, though, mind you; it’s a Bonus symbol that comes in the shape of a book. You will have to land all three of these symbols on the screen at the same time in order to trigger the Bonus game.
Once you have accomplished this, you will enter a new screen with a selection of potions to choose from. Basically, it’s just a standard pick me game. Your objective will be to pick out three of these potions on display. These will all mix together and form a golden ingot of certain value, which will be your cash prize.
Alchemist’s Lab certainly isn’t a game for everyone. Everything from the graphics to the structure is pretty basic, so don’t expect to be blown away visually. The presence of a bonus feature does spice gameplay up a bit, though, and it can make for a pretty decent winning opportunity, as well.
