As you can already guess from the title, Arcader is a real blast from the past. So if you are among those who have actually played the old school arcades, you might find this offering to be a bitter sweet reminder of the good old days. The days of pixel graphics, robotic backing tracks and little to no special effects. Yet despite all of the above being present in Arcader, software developer Thunderkick has yet again managed to deliver a very exciting gaming experience. The slot game features retro symbols, such as fruit icons (lemons, oranges, plums, etc), BAR symbols, bells and lucky 7s; and the backdrop appears to be some lunar location judging by the moon craters and starry night sky.

As for the layout, you have your regular grid of 5 reels and 3 rows. There is a total of 15 paylines for you to bet on, and these will not be subject to any adjustments on your part. In other words, the paylines are fixed. Stakes start off at a minimum of only 20p per single spin, and the maximum bet is a total of £100 per spin.

Where to Play

Special Features

Though visually quite simplistic, the setup of Arcader is anything but. It comes with several special features, one of which is the Expander feature. Look for the arrow symbol as it has a very special role of its own – whenever it has the opportunity of contributing to a winning combo, it will expand to cover the whole reel that it’s on. Furthermore, it will assume the form of the symbol that will make for the highest win.

Wild

The Wild can land in all positions on any of the 5 reels, but more importantly it will be able to replace any of the regular symbols with the exception of course of the two Scatters. Naturally, it also won’t be able to substitute for the Expander symbol we described earlier.

Free Spins

One of the main attractions in Arcader is the Free Spins feature. To trigger it, look out for the B Scatter symbol. It too can appear in any position on the reels, however, you will be looking to land at least 3 of these symbols during the same spin. Regardless of the number of Scatters, though, you will receive 9 free spins. What does vary is the size of the multiplier you receive, and it depends on whether you triggered the feature with 3, 4 or 5 Scatters.

So, landing 3 Scatters will give you a 1x multiplier for the duration of the bonus round; 4 Scatters on the other hand will provide a 3x multiplier; and finally, 5 Scatter symbols will ensure that all free spins winnings are subject to a 9x multiplier. Furthermore, each free spin can potentially award a sticky Wild on one of the middle reels.

Mystery Game

Similarly to the Free Spins round, you can trigger the Mystery Game with the help of 3 or more M Scatters. As a result, you will activate the pick me game, where you will need to choose from pixelated symbols. Each one will award you a certain cash prize and you can keep on picking until you land the X symbol. At that point the feature will end.

Also, very much like with the Free Spins Feature, if you land more than 3 Scatters you get additional benefits – 4 and 5 Scatter symbols will each award you a 2x and 6x multiplier, respectively.

Verdict

Arcader will likely appeal to a large audience, even players that aren’t old enough to remember the arcades will enjoy it. It has a cool vibe and the purposeful choppiness of the sound and visuals are certainly what give it its charm. Aside from that, though, there are a variety of interesting features to enjoy. This all of this adds up to a terrific offering.
