The Book of Ra will guide you through the land of the Pharaohs on your mission to find the hidden treasure. The game originally feels like some sort of Indiana Jones cast off, but that’s probably being a little unfair in what’s turned out to be an exciting and well-designed slot. Whilst not the most original of themes, Book of Ra offers up an exciting story line but also a good chance to win a lot of money with one of the higher return to player percentages that we have seen.
The game actually starts out pretty slow with a 5 reel but only 10-payline offering. However, we have found that the game pays out quite often and the bonus rounds and free spins games are worth their weight in gold. Not that they actually weigh anything, but you know what me mean.
The scatters are what most of the special features from this game are based around. The Pharaoh’s book is the scatter, and by collecting three or more of these you will be taken to the free spins round. The scatter will also substitute to make winning pay lines, not too dissimilar to a wild in other games.
The free spins round is what this game is all about and, as previously mentioned, to get in you need three of the scatter symbols to be placed anywhere on the 5 reel board. Once you are in, the game will then flick through all the symbols from the Book of Ra and then assign you with a symbol. This symbol is very important, as it will act as an expanding scatter.
Throughout the free spins game, if a scatter is placed on any payline then it will expand to cover that whole reel. You need three or more scatters to appear at one time for this to happen. If it appears on all 5 reels then you are in for a huge bonus, providing you’re playing the max number of pay lines (and when there are only 10 anyway it would make no sense not to.)
Yet another Egyptian themed slot was not our ideal preference when reviewing the Book of Ra. However, the slot has pleasantly surprised us and we are pleased to say that it’s a game well worth trying. The 10 payline option isn’t all that great on paper, but the game paid out more than its fair share in our time of testing. Even though we were playing in demo mode, albeit for max amount per spin (£400), we managed to rack up an incredible £140,000 in winnings with just one visit to the free spins game.
