The words “down under” usually make us think of Australia – after all, it is the land down under. This game from Rival Gaming isn’t as simple as that though, because while the opening video does depict someone who looks like a clone of Crocodile Dundee finding some buried treasure on a map, the slot is really more about digging for that treasure in a mine. That said, plenty of symbols upon the slot’s reels do depict things commonly associated with Australia.

Rival Gaming has made sure to add some high-quality graphics into Diamonds Down Under, so everything stands out as being crisp and clear. The first of the slot’s symbols are present in the shape of a sign with a kangaroo on it, and a beer can. These can both multiply your wager by up to 65x. Next in line is a symbol of a koala, which is followed by that of a kangaroo, and then a crocodile. The big lizard comes next, while a boomerang can also be seen on the reels. Finally, the highest paying standard symbols are those of the collection of diamonds and the Australian man, which have the ability to multiply your stake by up to 400x and 500x, respectively.

The developer has created this slot game on a layout consisting of five reels and three rows in total. At the same time, a set of 15 pay lines have also been built into it. You can adjust the number of lines that are active in Diamonds Down Under though, which is done simply by using the “Select Lines” button. Then, you can choose a specific coin value between 1p and £1 before choosing the number of coins you want to be active per line. The game offers a range of between one and five for this, meaning that the maximum overall wager possibility stands at £75 per spin.

Special Features

Wild

What does a miner need in order to excavate his treasure? A pickaxe of course, and that’s precisely what operates as the wild symbol in the Diamonds Down Under slot. It is this one that can appear anywhere on the reels and stand in for all of the other standard symbols mentioned earlier.

This makes forming winning combinations much easier, although it won’t substitute for the game’s scatters. If you manage to form a win consisting solely of wild pickaxes, then you’ll see your bet multiplied by 5,000x.

Free Spins

Australia isn’t only known for its treasures though, because the land is also inhabited by native Aboriginal people. It is the symbol of one of these natives that operates as the game’s free spins scatter symbol.

You’ll need to spin three, four or five of these symbols into view to activate 10, 20 or 100 free spins, respectively. During this round, a triple multiplier will also be in action for your wins. Also, you’re able to re-trigger the free spins round while it’s in operation by bringing three or more of the native Aborigine into view anywhere.

Bonus Round

The opening video package of the Diamonds Down Under slot displays the Australian man finding a red “x” on his treasure map. It is this map that works as the game’s bonus round trigger. You’ll need to spin three or more of this one into view anywhere in order to activate the mystery bonus round.

In this feature, you’ll get to dig those sparkling diamonds up from their various locations, with each one that you find rewarding you with a nice bonus pay-out.

Verdict

It’s true that the buried treasure theme has been injected into various slot games from different developers. However, Rival Gaming has united this theme with the Australian theme and brought something new to the table with Diamonds Down Under. The graphics are highly appealing, while the inclusion of a wild and free spins round make it much more entertaining. Add the bonus round to this and you’ve got yourself a thoroughly exciting slot to play.
