You may have heard of a novel by Frances Hodgson Burnett with an almost identical name to this Rival slot, and the similarities don’t stop there. This is a very green, calm, and pleasing slot, full of flowers, inquisitive youngsters, and old world charm.

The game’s layout consists of five reels which are joined by three rows, and across this layout you’ll also see 20 pay lines in operation, although you can reduce the active number of these. You’re also able to adjust the value of the wager you’re playing per round, first by choosing a coin value between 1p and 25p. Then bring up to 10 of those coins into play for a maximum bet potential of £50 per spin.

As far as Secret Garden’s graphics are concerned, they do look a little bit dated in comparison to more recent Rival Gaming releases. The symbols upon the five reels include images of a wheelbarrow, gardening tools, a rabbit with a carrot, a squirrel taking acorns, a watering can and a boy and girl. The symbol of the roses is able to pay out the highest standard reward of up to 500x your stake.

Special Features

Master Key

In Secret Garden, it is the key to the garden itself which is also the key to the slot’s bonus round. This is known as the Master Key symbol, and you need to spin at least three of them into view in order to activate the Explore the Secret Garden bonus feature round.

The scatters can be in any position to be able to trigger the bonus round. Just follow the on-screen instructions for this round to be in with a chance of significantly boosting your win balance.

Duck

It appears as though a duck has managed to waddle its way into the Secret Garden, too. Fortunately, it’s there to give you a helping hand, as it operates as the slot’s wild symbol.

This means that wherever it shows up, it will stand in for any other basic symbol within the game and allow you to form winning combinations. Therefore, it can be quite helpful when it appears, although it will not substitute for the bonus and scatter symbols.

Quack, quack!

Garden Gate

If the key triggers the game’s bonus round, then it makes sense that it’s the symbol of the gate which works as this game’s free spins scatter symbol, meaning that it can appear anywhere and trigger the free spins round for you. As long as three of them are in view in any position, then you’ll be given access to the free spins feature.

You’ll get 20 free spins whenever three scatters show up, with a double multiplier also being in action. For four scatters, the game rewards you with 30 free spins, while five of them will ensure that you receive 50 free spins, which is the maximum in Secret Garden. The double multiplier is also in operation for the 30 and 50 free spins functions.

Verdict

Despite the fact that Rival hasn’t achieved the greatest graphics with Secret Garden, it doesn’t take away from the charm or entertainment value of the slot. Of course, the game was released in 2008, so the lower quality graphics are to be expected to an extent, and with the inclusion of a wild symbol, bonus round, and free spins feature with win multiplier, there are still plenty of perks to playing this one.
