The circus has always been a place for fun and making childhood memories. But take away the lighthearted acts, and have the music switch to a little bit of an eerie key, and you get a very different picture. Wicked Circus presents you with a dark and scary face to something otherwise cheery and wonderful, and it does a really great job with it too thanks to the subdued color scheme and creepy backing track. Plus, the jack-in-the-box style Joker occasionally makes a terrifying appearance on the reels, which may even be a little too much for the faint hearted among you. Other than the uneasy feeling that this game conjures, you will notice that it’s actually based on a classic fruit machine. The majority of symbols on these reels you will already know from vintage slots. For example, you have grapes, lemons and cherries, nd the higher value icons include a bell, a lucky 7 and a star.

The layout in Wicked Circus isn’t that vintage, though. It features a grid of 5 reels and 3 rows and there are a total of 5 paylines that pay both from left to right as well as from right to left. So, in total that makes for 10 active paylines that you can place your wagers on. However, these are fixed, so you will not have the option to regulate them. With that in mind, the minimum bet will set you back some 10p per spin. The maximum bet, on the other hand, is a total of £20 per single spin.

Special Features

The Joker & Jokerizer Mode

Wicked Circus actually revolves around the same concept that several other Yggdrasil games. It’s a Jokerizer slot game, and that means that there is only one special symbol on the reels – the Joker. There are no Wilds, no Bonus symbols and therefore no traditional special features. You will not get to play any freespins or pick me games or anything of the sort.

The Joker acts kind of like a Scatter but with a twist. If you land 3 or more Joker symbols anywhere in view, you will receive a Mystery Win:

  • 3 Jokers will ensure a cash prize of between 500 and 1,000 coins.
  • 4 Jokers, on the other hand, can award you anywhere from 800 to 3,000 coins.
  • If you manage to land all 5 Joker symbols on the reels you can count on a prize of at least 2,000 and up to 6,000 coins.

To enter the Jokerizer Mode, all you have to do is land any win. You can then choose to collect your win, or use it for the Jokerizer spins. In the event of the latter you will find that each spin will cost you a total of 20 coins and you can play until you have no more coins left. But the perks of the Jokerizer Mode is that you can get a Mystery Win just by landing 2 Joker symbols at the same time.

What’s more, you can also take advantage of something called the Hold Function. Whenever 2 Joker symbols land on the reels, you can opt to hold them in place while the other symbols respin. Each such respin, however, will come at a costly 60 coins. But it will give you the possibility to land more Jokers and therefore, pocket a bigger win.

Verdict

Wicked Circus certainly goes off the beaten track as far as its structure goes, and while that may not appeal to everyone, it’s still a fast paced and exciting offering nonetheless. The exceptional quality visuals also contribute to making this a worthwhile title.
