Red Hot Wild is an online slot game by software developer Barcrest. It’s an old school style offering laden with all your typical retro slot machine symbols and even a very classical setup… for the most part. The fiery backdrop perfectly reflects the game’s title and even adds a little to the excitement in the overall gaming experience. There isn’t a real soundtrack here, though, which is common for Barcrest games – besides the generic tune playing while the reels spin which glitches annoyingly. Turn it off if you want our advice. The visuals, in line with the genre, are also fairly basic and devoid of any of the flashy features you get in most modern video slot games.

The symbols here are mainly fruit symbols. They include cherries, pears, oranges, plums, lemons and watermelons. The rest are BARs, bells, stars, and 7s. As for the layout in Red Hot Wild, it is also very traditional, featuring a grid of only 3 reels and 3 rows. There are only 5 active paylines available and these are fixed, so you won’t have the opportunity to regulate or adjust them. Stakes are within the typical betting range for this provider, starting at a minimum bet of 10p per single spin. The maximum wager amount will set you back a total of £500 per spin.

Special Features

There are two available Big Bet options for players to take advantage of in Red Hot Wild. Both options will buy you 5 spins, but one of them will cost you £20 and the other £30. The former offers you a Stepping Wild. As part of this feature, any time you land a Wild symbol on the reels it will take a step down one position. The latter option will come with Persistent (aka Sticky) Wilds; so whenever a Wild lands on the reels it will stay there for the remainder of the Big Bet.

Wild

The Wild symbol is this game’s main attraction. That’s right – no freespins, no pick me games, and no other special features. However, the Wild comes with a unique kind of feature of its’ own. In fact, it begins even before the game can start. Before you get to spin the reels, you will have to select one of the regular symbols to act as the Wild. You will notice also that these symbols all come with different multipliers values (from 1x to 10x).

Depending on the symbol that you choose, it will appear more or less frequently on the reels. For example, the 7s come with a 10x multiplier and they will be the most difficult to land on the screen. On the flip side, the cherries, offering the smallest multiplier of 1x, will appear much more often. But don’t feel like you have to be confined to your choice for the rest of gameplay. You can always change the Wild to another symbol at any point during the game if you decide to by hitting the big ‘change’ button.

Verdict

Red Hot Wild stays true to its classic roots in that there are none of the contemporary special features. Yet the developers have tried to spice up the Wild symbol giving it some cool extras that can greatly boost your winnings.
