Good vs Evil – the ultimate battle, and often the theme of online slot games. Archangels offers a classic representation of this battle by splitting the screen in half, giving us an angel floating in midair to the left, and a menacing demon to the right. In between them is the rather tall skinny set of reels. Note also the pretty, cool graphics and the rocky landscape in the backdrop on either side of the screen. What’s more, if you have your sound on you will enjoy the dramatic soundtrack, which just adds to the atmosphere.
This brings us to the setup of this Netent offering, which is by the way no less exciting than the visuals. First off, the layout has 6 reels and 12 whole rows. There are 100 fixed paylines with a betting range spanning from 40p per spin up to £200 per single spin. In addition, Archangels also features a variety of symbols to fill out this large grid. There are four lower value, four medium value and two high paying symbols, with those last two being the angel and demon, both offering the same payouts. Speaking of which, there are also corresponding features for both of these characters, and that just ups the entertainment factor.
Where to Play
Before we get into the exciting bonus rounds, let’s first point out one important thing about the layout. You will notice that the top two and bottom two rows have a fiery, electric border around them. These are the so-called Hot Spots and they play a big role in one of the two main attractions in this title.
Archangels boasts a special kind of Wild symbol – it takes up four positions on the reels (2×2). And while it doesn’t offer any payouts of its own, it can replace any of the other symbols on these reels. The only exception, however, is the Scatter icon.
The Scatter symbol will be responsible for triggering the free spins bonus round in this game. It can land in any position on the reels at any point during gameplay, and much like the Wild it doesn’t offer any payouts. To activate the feature you will be looking to land a minimum of 3 Scatters simultaneously during a spin. Landing 3, 4, 5 and 6 Scatter symbols will award you 10, 15, 20 and 25 free spins, respectively. You cannot retrigger the bonus, however, and note that during the free spins round the Hot Spots each increase by one row.
Heaven and Hell Feature
In order to activate either the Heaven or Hell feature, you will need to land a 2×2 Wild symbol in either Hot Spot. Landing the Wild in the top Hot Spot will trigger the Heaven feature. Now, if the Wild landed only partially in the Hot Spot, this will generate 2 stacks of Wild symbols, whereas if it landed fully then you will benefit from 4 stacks of Wilds.
Likewise, a 2×2 Wild in the bottom Hot Spot will trigger the Hell feature. This will, in turn, generate either 8 or 16 single Wild symbols, depending on whether the 2×2 Wild landed fully or partially in the Hot Spot area. In addition, players can also re-trigger both the Hell and Heaven features. To do so, they will need to land a stack of Wilds or four single Wilds in either Hot Spot.
Archangels is a great offering from Netent, featuring high quality graphics and a compelling setup, as per usual for this developer. Don’t be intimidated if the features seem complicated – they really aren’t, which you will see so for yourself once you get to playing. Keep in mind also that this is a medium variance title, so there will be a good balance of winning and losing streaks.
