Subtopia offers up an underwater experience like never before. Join a funky team of scientists and seafarers on a journey to the deepest depths of the ocean, where you’ll have the opportunity to spin through reels of A, J, K, Q and 10 symbols, as well as icons of the characters themselves. There’s the captain of the ship, searching through his periscope, there’s the mechanist girl with a spanner in her hand, the diver getting ready to plunge into the icy depths, the almost secretarial blonde carrying her books, and the crazy-haired explorer who’s got his hands on a piece of gold treasure.
The game offers a five reel, three row interface to play on complete with 20 paylines which can be customised to suit your preference. There’s a bet level that can be altered between one and 10, while the game’s coin value can be changed between £0.01 and £0.50 per line. With everything maxed out, you’ll be able to place an overall maximum wager of £100 per spin, and there’s also an autoplay and max bet button included for obvious reasons.
In the main game, a random multiplier will increase by two times, up to a maximum of times five.
The wild symbol in this game is represented by the artefact held by the explorer. It will substitute for all other symbols on the reels, except for scatters and free spin multiplier meter symbols.
Should you spin three or more scatter symbols during the main game a free spins round will be activated. Scatter wins pay out your total wager multiplied by its own multiplier, with five of them providing a multiplier of times 100.
In free spins mode you’ll find a multiplier meter appearing at random. This will increase any wins by times two up to a maximum of times six.
Subtopia is a quirky little game, and the addition of its multipliers in both the main game and free spins mode is a welcome perk. However, its other features, like the wild symbol and the scatters, aren’t really anything new when it comes to slot games. Subtopia would greatly benefit from a nice bonus round, perhaps incorporating science or underwater exploration into it, just to give players something extra to work towards. Other than that, you’ll find a nice easy game to play.
