When you want to buy a house in an area that you can’t afford there is only one option available to you – you buy a ‘fixer upper’. That’s precisely the theme behind this Rival Gaming slot. A young couple have bought a house that is falling into disrepair, so it’s up to them to fix all of its problems and turn it into a palace. Fortunately, Rival has provided a few tools and items that they will need to do the job.

Fixer Upper utilises a standard video slot layout that is made up of five reels and three rows, therefore, everything should look pretty standard here. At the same time, the developer has added a set of 20 pay lines that are customisable using the ‘Select Lines’ button. Alongside this, you can customise your wager by first of all by choosing a specific coin value between 1p and 5p. Then you need to choose how many of those coins you’d like to be in operation per spin between one and 10. This means that the maximum overall wager possibility in this game stands at £10 per spin.

Taking a look at the visual side of Fixer Upper, you’ll see that Rival Gaming have done a grand job with the graphics and design. The reels are made up of copper piping, while the symbols upon those same reels are all very crisp and clear. They start out with a measuring tape, a drill, a symbol of a saw, and another of a hammer and nails. You’ll also see that a symbol of a shovel is present, which can multiply your stake by up to 400x. A pot of green paint can also be seen, while the brush for that pot comes as a separate symbol on the reels. A staple gun is also present as a symbol but it’s the male repairman that operates as its highest paying standard symbol, offering maximum pay-outs of 500x your stake.

Special Features

Step Ladders

What does every repairman need to get to those hard to reach areas? A set of ladders, of course! In this slot game, the ladder represents the wild symbol. So, wherever it shows up on the reels, it will stand in for all other symbols, helping you to form wins. The only symbols that aren’t substituted with this one are the bonus and free spins triggers.

During base gameplay, any win containing a wild symbol will be multiplied the number of wilds featured within the combination. This changes during free spins as a single wild will provide a multiplier of 3x, two will give you a multiplier of 4x, and three of them offer a multiplier of 5x. One more perk of this symbol is that it will expand to cover an entire reel if it’s possible to form additional wins by doing so.

Handy Woman

There’s also the addition of a free spins round in Fixer Upper, which is activated by the handy woman symbol. She has clearly been using the green paint, as she has a splodge on her white visor. You need to spin at least three of this one into view in order to activate the free spins functions.

You’ll be given 15 free spins when three of this symbol come into view, while 30 free spins are provided for four of them. If you manage to spin five free spins symbols into view you’ll get 50 free spins altogether.

Wrench

Finally, you should watch out for the appearance of wrench symbol in the game. This is the slot’s bonus symbol, and it is able to activate the bonus round by appearing in three or more positions at the same time.

Doing so will present you with a special side feature game round, giving you more opportunities to boost your win balance.

Verdict

Fixer Upper is one of those slot games that provides wonderful gameplay from start to finish. The bet possibilities are great, and the inbuilt special features make it even more thrilling – but we have to mention that the soundtrack gets annoying fast as it is only a few seconds long and is on a loop. On the whole though, it operates as a great slot game from the Rival brand.
