What’s the first thing that comes to mind when you read the title of Dream Run? Well, the slot’s not really got anything to do with running, or dreams for that matter; in fact, the theme that is behind this RTG slot is racing cars. Granted, cars have been appearing in online slot games for quite some time now, but Dream Run is a little bit different. RTG brings its own kind of flair to the reels with this one.
Alongside its basic playing card symbols (which all have tyre marks on them for added effect), there are various other thematic symbols on the reels. These include the speedometer, the steering wheel, a car tyre, a nitro booster button and, because all car races result in violence, a gun. Well, maybe we exaggerated that last part, although a gun does appear as a symbol on Dream Run’s reels.
The layout of the slot contains five reels and three rows, so this utilises a bog standard interface. RTG has also chosen to add a set of 25 paylines into the game and these are set in position, therefore, you’re not able to customise them in any way. You can, on the other hand, change the wager that you bring into play per spin. There are up and down arrows at the bottom of the reels for you to do this with. Wild
What’s better than having a single wild symbol? Having two of them present, of course! Dream Run give us this, offering a Racer Wild on reel one and an Opponent Wild on reels two, three, four and five. In terms of the Racer Wild, he will substitute for all other symbols in the game except for the scattered light icons. Should he appear in a winning combination, then he will also triple the pay-out that you receive.
As far as the Opponent Wild is concerned, he will operate in exactly the same way, substituting for all other icons except the scatters of the slot. However, he will not multiply the pay-out in the same way that the Racer Wild does.
Traffic Lights Scatters
The scatter symbol that appears in Dream Run is the traffic light. As standard, this one shows up without any kind of colour displayed on it, however, if two or more of them show up, then each of them will illuminate either red or green.
Scatter wins will only be paid out whenever two or more green lights show up. Red does not pay anything. If you manage to spin five green lights into view, then you’ll receive a bet multiplier of 100x the wager amount.
Dream Run Racing Feature
The scatter symbol has a secondary function for you to enjoy. This is known as the Dream Run Racing Feature, which activates whenever three or more green traffic lights come into view. In this bonus round, you will need to pick one of five different street cars that are revealed. These five cars then go racing against one another. Depending upon the position that your chosen car finishes in the race, you’ll be rewarded with a set of free spins.
If you come in first place, then you’ll get 25 free spins, which is the maximum. Other position finishes award you with 20, 15, 10 and 5 free spins, however, if your chosen street car finishes in first, second or third place, then a second race takes place.
In this second race, 100, 25, 15, 10 or 5x the triggering bet is awarded to you depending upon where your vehicle finishes. If your car finishes in 1st or 2nd place in that race, then a third occurs. This determines a free spins multiplier of up to 7x depending upon what position your car ends the third race. Should a third race not take place, all prizes during free spins will be doubled.
Nitro Racing Feature
You didn’t think the racing features ended there, did you? Well, fortunately, there’s another one. If, during free spins, three or more green light scatters come into view, you’ll receive an additional 10 free spins. The Nitro Racing Feature is basically this game’s version of the aforementioned free spins. If you have gone through three previous car races, then a fourth race takes place during the free spins round.
If your vehicle finishes in first place during the fourth race, you win the game’s Major Jackpot. Any other position will pay out the Mini Jackpot. Should you not wish to wait around for the Nitro Racing Feature, you can try to trigger it earlier with the Instant Trigger meter. This can be seen in the top-right corner of the screen.
